CUBAN FOOD IN CHULA VISTA!? Yes! And "Los Pollos Cuban Bakery" does it right! I don't know how new this place is, but I must tell everyone about this place! My dad just took me out on a late lunch over to this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant, and I was just like, "WOW!" These Cuban sandwiches are on point! I ate what is called a "medianoche" (midnight) sandwich, which is basically everything that goes on a Cuban sandwich (ham, swiss cheese, pernil -pork leg meat, pickle, mustard, mayo) but on slightly sweeter bread. It was amazing! I don't even like mustard, mayo, or pickles; but I recommend you try it with everything before getting picky and removing some of the flavors that give this sandwich its awesome complex taste. The sandwich alone filled me up, it's probably even enough for two people to share (it is cut into 2 large pieces), so you can have some room for dessert.
As far as I can say, this place has the best Cuban sandwiches in, dare I say, the entirety of Southern San Diego (South of the 8 freeway, of course)! The order came standard with these super thin salted plantain chips, and I will say these plantain chips are the best I have ever had- ANYWHERE. I've been to various Cuban restaurants and bakeries before, so this is a huge win in my book! Oh yeah, and speaking about bakeries - these guys have some sweet treats made in-house. If you are a fan of desserts, or want to treat a significant other to some tasty and unique dessert, you should definitely consider picking up a couple of baked goods from these guys! I honestly didn't eat any dessert, because I couldn't put down my sandwich, but they look and smell delicious! Also, I had ordered a couple potato balls with my sandwich, which are an amazing savory food that I also recommend. In a simple description, and I know I'm not giving them justice, they are mashed potatoes stuffed with ground beef, balled up, breaded, and fried. All in all, It's amazing. I only have one question: Why didn't know about this place sooner?!
