The video game industry is money making and spending machine, and has just created a new generation of consoles with the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Along side the main systems, are voice/motion recognizing cameras and mobile/tablet crossover apps. And soon there will be virtual reality too. These all exist to enhance your game-playing experience.
There are already plenty of games using such features. Some are mobile and tablet applications and can possibly display maps, stats or other details. These apps are keeping you up to date or there to help while your playing. In 2015 there may be a few consumer VR devices to experience. VR is going to bring gamer's in on a whole new level. Fully HD, head-mounted, motion sensing displays. Some of which will display in 3D too. This is great for some and too much for others. While I am excited about the evolution, the casual gamer will not get on-board, non-gamers could care less and anti-video game critics will make a fuss. Many make the argument that game violence causes just that outside the virtual realm, and being "virtually there" is all the more fuel for the fire. Playing a virtual reality first person shooter in the living room will get into many hands (and heads) of those too young or irresponsible for these mature games. The technology is coming, the good and the bad. Are you ready or not?
