Movie REVIEW - Guardians of the Galaxy

Been a while since I had the urge to see a film multiple times. My expectations were pretty high for this one and it did not disappoint. Marvel has gotten better and better at making these movies and they have now proven that they can sell pretty much any character. Now I've only gotten into comics recently, so I knew practically nothing about these characters going in. The movie handles this pretty well, giving each character enough time to give a few details about their back story and not having it feel forced.

The characters themselves felt more "real" to me to me than their larger than life counter-parts on the Avengers. That is due to the excellent writing and perfect casting the film has. If you've seen Pratt in Parks and Recreation, then it's pretty easy to see why he was cast as Star-Lord. Batista was a surprise for me, I was weary of his acting going in but he managed to change my opinion of him. His performance wasn't anything amazing but he hit all the right beats and just really embodied the character of Drax. Saldana as Gamora was pretty solid, she's played similar roles in the past. She knows what she's doing and she does it well.  The stand-outs for me are easily Bradly Cooper as Rocket and Vin Diesel as Groot. Cooper pretty much steals the show, Rocket is loud, rude, funny and honest. Groot says so little but says so much at the same time. If there's any character you find yourself actually caring for by the end of it, it would probably be Groot.  When it comes to character's though, my favorite would have to be the film's soundtrack. It is such a part of the film which each track being perfectly chosen for each scene. The use of "Escape(Pina Colada song)" has to be my favorite.

The film is well directed and visually impressive but as you can tell from this review, it all hinges on it's characters.  It's been too long since i've had this much fun at the movies. I have gone to see the movie four times already. It's not perfect by any means and some parts might come off as a bit cheesy but it all just works and I'd easily go see it again if I could.

Thank you Rodrigo for your review. I agree, a great movie, filled with everything you'd expect from a science fiction, a super heroe, and a comedy movie. A very complete and thoughtful movie.

An awesome adventure, a movie with a style and attitude not seen in recent Marvel films. Great characters, great writing, and always entertaining. Definitely my movie of the year so far.
